Virtual classrooms and the training calendar

Run live or recorded classrooms with interactivity, breakouts and scoring, and schedule with Cortex.

8 min read

Virtual classrooms deliver live instructor-led training inside the LMS. Sessions run on LiveKit for real-time audio and video, and recordings are stored in cloud storage so absent learners can catch up. Manage them at /learning/classroom.

Creating a classroom

  1. 1Open Learning > Classroom and choose New classroom.
  2. 2Set title, host, start time, duration and the invited audience or linked course.
  3. 3Choose whether the session is recorded.
  4. 4Save. Invitees see it on their track and the training calendar.

Running a live session

  • Host and learners join from the browser; no software install.
  • Interactivity: polls, quizzes, reactions, hand raise and chat.
  • Breakout rooms split learners into small groups and bring them back.
  • Scoring: interactive questions award points that feed learner XP and the leaderboard.
  • Attendance is captured so completion can depend on being present.

Recordings

When recording is on, the session is saved after it ends and attached to the classroom. Learners who missed it can watch the recording, and watching can count toward completion.

Training calendar and smart scheduling

  1. 1Open Learning > Calendar (/learning/calendar) to see sessions, deadlines and events.
  2. 2Choose Smart schedule and describe the training, audience and constraints.
  3. 3Cortex proposes slots that avoid conflicts, leave and busy periods.
  4. 4Review and confirm; invites are created for the audience.
Cortex suggestions never auto-run: you type your request and confirm the result before anything is scheduled.
Hosts need the Learning module role that permits running classrooms. Recording depends on storage being configured for your workspace.
