A Deal is one opportunity. It sits in exactly one Pipeline at one Stage, has a status of OPEN, WON or LOST, and rolls up into forecasts, quotas and commissions. The board is at Sales (the pipeline view); create a deal from Sales > New or convert a lead.
Key Deal fields
- title, value, currency: the amount used in forecasts (currency defaults to USD).
- stageId and pipelineId: where the deal is on the board; stageEnteredAt is stamped every time it moves and powers rotting detection.
- status: OPEN, WON, LOST.
- probability (0-100) and forecastCategory (COMMIT, BEST_CASE, PIPELINE, OMITTED).
- nextStep and nextStageDueDate: what happens next and by when.
- ownerId, sdrId, aeId, managerId, teamId, regionId: who owns and who is credited.
- contactId, companyId: the linked person and account.
- contractTermMonths, renewalType (NEW_BUSINESS default), subscriptionType (ANNUAL default): drive recurring revenue and commissions.
Moving a deal
- 1Drag the card to the next stage on the board, change the stage inline on the deal page or list, or select several deals and change their stage with bulk edit.
- 2Rename a deal (or a lead) by clicking its title at the top of the record and editing it in place.
- 3Update nextStep and nextStageDueDate before leaving the deal; stale next steps are the top cause of slippage.
- 4Set forecastCategory honestly: COMMIT only when you would bet on it.
- 5To close, choose Won or Lost; Lost should record a reason so losses can be analysed.
Rotting and health
Because stageEnteredAt is recorded, the board can flag deals that have sat in a stage longer than expected. Treat a rotting flag as a prompt to re-qualify, not just to nudge.
